government social housing programme, Minha Casa Minha Vida (My House, My Life).
With a minimum investment of €200,000 and returns guaranteed through legally binding contract, this opportunity to participate in the Brazil social housing programme offers 170% returns over two years. 12 months after making the initial capital payment, investors receive full return of their investment plus a 10% dividend. After a further 12 months, investors receive a 60% dividend, making a total profit of 70%. Dividends are tax-exempt in Brazil.
This ambitious social housing programme aims to build 3 million homes by the end of 2014 and reduce the
housing shortfall for low-income Brazilians by almost 40%. Homes are targeted at Brazilians earning between 0 and 10 times the minimum monthly wage (currently R$510). Qualifying families of the new Minha Casa Minha Vida homes receive highly-preferential mortgages and tax exemptions or reductions. The programme has been hugely successful and is heavily over-subscribed.
With a government budget of R$105.7 billion, Minha Casa Minha Vida is solely financed by the government-
owned Caixa bank. The largest public bank in Latin America, Caixa provides both funds for developers of Minha Casa Minha Vida projects and mortgages for homeowners.
Since January 2010, Obelisk has investments totalling €100 million (3,000 social housing units) under construction and management in the Minha Casa Minha Vida scheme. These represent 5.2% of the total Minha Casa Minha Vida allocation (57,500 homes) for the region of Rio Grande do Norte.
